About the funder

The Karl and Hilde Holzschuh Foundation is a private foundation based in Karlsbad (Baden-Württemberg). It was established in 2000 by Hilde Holzschuh to fulfill the wish of her late husband Karl. The foundation supports projects in the fields of youth, education and upbringing, culture and sports, environmental, nature and monument protection, senior, elderly and needy assistance, as well as science and research on biological medicine in Germany. Well-known funding instruments include the Karlsbad Citizens' Award and the Holzschuh Prize for Complementary Medicine.

Mission & Vision

The foundation aims to initiate cooperation, compassion, and participation among all citizens of Karlsbad and to broadly support civic community spirit. The guiding principle is the Schopenhauer quote: "In old age, there is no greater consolation than having devoted the full strength of one's youth to works that do not grow old."

Target groups

Non-profit, cultural, and ecclesiastical institutions as well as associations, schools, and individuals engaged in voluntary work, especially in the fields of youth, education, senior and elderly care, hospice work, as well as environmental and monument protection. Geographical focus: Karlsbad and surrounding areas in the Karlsruhe district (Baden-Württemberg). Promotion of science and research on biological medicine is supported nationwide.
