About the funder

The Karla and Alfred W. Adickes Foundation is a legal, non-profit foundation under civil law based in Hamburg-Poppenbüttel. Founded by Alfred W. Adickes (1906–1997) and his wife Karla Adickes (1906–1998), the foundation has operated a senior housing complex since 1984, currently offering 96 one- and two-room apartments for elderly people with low incomes. The housing complex features event and recreational rooms, a library, workshop and gymnastics rooms, a well-maintained garden with a pond, as well as guest rooms. The foundation continuously invests in the modernization and maintenance of the complex and supports—albeit only occasionally—social and cultural projects for seniors, children, and people with disabilities.

Mission & Vision

The Karla and Alfred W. Adickes Foundation is committed to enabling elderly people with limited financial means to live independently, securely, and in a community in old age. Through the operation of a spacious senior housing complex, the provision of diverse community offerings, and continuous modernization measures, it promotes quality of life, participation, and dignified aging.

Target groups

The foundation's offerings are aimed at elderly individuals who have reached retirement age, do not possess high income or assets, and are interested in independent living within a supervised, community-based residential complex. Special focus is placed on single seniors as well as couples with limited financial means.
