About the funder

The KfW Foundation is an independent, non-profit foundation under civil law based in Frankfurt am Main. It was established in 2012 by the KfW Banking Group and is dedicated to addressing major societal transformation issues. In the fields of ecology & sustainability, economy & society, as well as art & culture, it supports projects, networks, and initiatives that develop innovative solutions and provide impetus for sustainable change.

Mission & Vision

Under the guiding principle "Taking Responsibility – Shaping Diversity," the KfW Foundation supports actors who question existing patterns and experiment with new forms of action. Its aim is to strengthen social participation, promote intercultural and transdisciplinary exchange, and create platforms for sustainable and creative solutions.

Target groups

The funding programs of the KfW Foundation are aimed at non-profit associations, foundations, non-profit limited liability companies (gGmbHs), research institutions, and civil society initiatives both domestically and abroad. This includes project sponsors from the fields of environmental and nature conservation, social innovation, cultural and arts promotion, as well as education. Additionally, individuals and groups – such as artists, students, or professionals involved in development projects – are specifically supported through scholarships and residency programs.
