About the funder

The Klaus Grohe Foundation for Medicinal Chemistry was established in 2001 by Prof. Dr. Klaus Grohe and his wife Eva Grohe at the German Chemical Society (GDCh). The purpose of the foundation is to support young scientists in the field of medicinal chemistry and drug research. The Klaus Grohe Prize, awarded every two years, honors outstanding young researchers (doctoral candidates and postdoctoral researchers up to three years after completing their doctorate) who work at research institutions in Germany or abroad and have a connection to medicinal chemistry/drug research in Germany. The foundation awards two prizes, each worth 2,000 euros. The prize winners present their work in a lecture at the meeting of the Society of German Natural Scientists and Physicians (GDNÄ).

Mission & Vision

The Klaus-Grohe Foundation is committed to promoting young scientists in medicinal chemistry and drug research. It aims to provide recognition and visibility to young researchers, support their innovative achievements, and contribute to scientific exchange. The goal is to honor excellent research results that advance progress in the diagnosis and therapy of novel active substances.

Target groups

Funding is provided to chemists with a doctorate (doctoral candidates as well as postdoctoral researchers up to three years after obtaining their doctorate) who are active in the field of medicinal chemistry and drug research. The scientists should generally have an affiliation with research institutions in Germany but may also work at foreign (European) institutions. Professorship candidates, group leaders, and early-career researchers with innovative approaches in drug development are encouraged to apply.
