About the funder
The Cologne University Foundation was established in 2019 as a legal foundation under civil law. It promotes excellent education, innovative research, and sustainable development at the University of Cologne through funds that can be deployed flexibly and on short notice. Since its inception, it has realized flagship projects such as the InnoDom Cologne startup center and supported funding measures across all departments – from aid for Ukraine to a virtual reality laboratory and the European Conference on African Studies. Thanks to its manageable structure, it can act quickly and ensures that every donation achieves the greatest possible impact.

Mission & Vision
We enable excellent education, innovative research, and sustainable development at the University of Cologne. Through private support, we create greater flexibility, planning security, and freedom for forward-looking ideas to strengthen the university in its role as an internationally connected top-tier institution.
Target groups
The funding opportunities of the Cologne University Foundation are aimed at private donors (founders, alumni, companies, and philanthropic patrons) who wish to support the University of Cologne in the long term, as well as at academic institutions of the university itself (faculties, departments, institutes, and central administrative units) that seek to implement innovative projects in research, teaching, and knowledge transfer.
