About the funder

The Kulturstiftung Hohenmölsen is a legally established foundation under civil law, based in Hohenmölsen. It was founded on July 16, 1998 (registration number HAL-11741-28/98) and aims to promote monument protection, monument preservation, and the local heritage spirit in Hohenmölsen and the Zeitz-Weißenfels lignite mining region. A key focus lies in the research and presentation of the region’s mining and industrial history. The foundation works closely with associations, educational institutions, and volunteer initiatives to further develop Hohenmölsen as a cultural center in the Central German lignite mining area.

Mission & Vision

The Kulturstiftung Hohenmölsen understands culture in a broad sense as an expression of human interaction. It does not wish to nostalgically glorify the past but to use it as a resource to shape the future. Our mission is to keep the industrial and social history of the region alive, to promote cultural initiatives, and to raise awareness among visitors and residents alike about the heritage of lignite mining.

Target groups

The funding programs of the Kulturstiftung are aimed at local and regional clubs, associations, and educational institutions, cultural initiatives related to the mining and industrial history of Central Germany, project sponsors engaged in monument and heritage preservation in Hohenmöhlen, as well as young people who wish to engage with the region and its future.
