About the funder

The Leonhard-Stinnes-Foundation was established in 1911 and serves charitable and public-benefit purposes. The foundation supports projects that benefit the residents of Mülheim an der Ruhr, particularly in the areas of social affairs, sports, education, and culture. A special focus lies on the expansion and operation of the eye clinic, the promotion of playgrounds and sports facilities, the support of public libraries, as well as educational funding. The foundation was initiated by Dr. Phil. and med. Johann Hermann Wilhelm Leonhard and his wife Margarete, née Stinnes. After the loss of their two daughters, the couple decided to dedicate their assets to foundations in favor of their hometown Mülheim an der Ruhr.
