About the funder

The Luise Rinser Foundation was established on April 30, 2001, on the occasion of the 90th birthday of the writer Luise Rinser. It continues Luise Rinser’s intellectual and practical commitment and supports journalists, writers, and organizations worldwide who advocate for human rights, freedom, democracy, and gender equality and who face repression or persecution as a result. The foundation assists its target groups through financial grants, public relations, publications, events, and the awarding of a prize.

Mission & Vision

In accordance with the spiritual, political, and social convictions of Luise Rinser, the foundation is committed to fostering dialogue among people of all languages, nations, and worldviews, strengthening awareness of the unity of all human beings, and thereby promoting peace. It works closely with international and transnational networks to provide protection and support to persecuted cultural creators and human rights activists.

Target groups

Supported are: Female journalists and writers who are persecuted because of their commitment to freedom of expression, human rights, and democracy; individuals and organizations engaged in promoting gender equality and international understanding; initiatives and individuals aligned with the foundation's objectives that promote peace and understanding through publications, conferences, or social projects.
