About the funder

The Medienanstalt Berlin-Brandenburg (mabb) is the joint, independent public-law institution of the federal states of Berlin and Brandenburg. Through a combination of contemporary media supervision and sustainable media promotion, it ensures the diversity of the media landscape in the metropolitan region. Its responsibilities include licensing and supervision of private TV and radio broadcasters, regulation of telemedia providers (advertising, youth protection, and imprint obligations), as well as the allocation of funding for projects in the areas of media literacy, local journalism, local TV, and audio.

Mission & Vision

As an independent institution, the mabb places citizens of all generations at its center: Through consistent media supervision, it ensures fairness, youth protection, and transparency in digital and traditional media. Its funding programs strengthen media literacy, local reporting, and innovative projects to promote democratic discourse and enable all stakeholders to actively participate in shaping the media landscape.

Target groups

The funding programs of mabb are aimed at a wide range of stakeholders: citizens and educational institutions for media literacy projects; broadcasters, telemedia providers, and provider associations for local journalistic audio and audiovisual formats; non-commercial radio initiatives; universities, start-ups, and media professionals for innovation projects at the Media Innovation Center Babelsberg (MIZ); as well as independent cultural and community projects at ALEX Berlin.
