Melanchthon-Stiftung

Private foundation

About the funder

The Melanchthon Foundation was established in 1961 as a scholarship organization for former princely school students and has ecclesiastical roots. It supports academically gifted and morally deserving pupils from four traditional boarding schools in the new federal states (Landesschule Pforta, Klosterschule Roßleben, Saxon State Gymnasium St. Afra in Meißen, Gymnasium St. Augustin in Grimma). The foundation grants full and partial scholarships to cover school and boarding costs. The funds originate from the foundation's capital income as well as donations and contributions. Annual board meetings serve as a forum for exchange with school representatives, and the allocation of scholarships is carried out by a board and appointed officers in accordance with the statutes and guidelines.

Mission & Vision

The Melanchthon Foundation is committed to ensuring that no gifted child is excluded from education and boarding school life for financial reasons. It preserves and promotes the tradition of Protestant regional and princely schools, supports young people regardless of their background, and contributes to equal opportunities and personal development through targeted scholarships.

Target groups

Talented and morally deserving pupils from Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, and Thuringia who attend one of the four affiliated boarding schools are supported. A prerequisite for a scholarship is good academic performance in core subjects, impeccable behavior, and a written report of experiences from school and boarding school. The target group includes individuals and families who rely on financial assistance for school and boarding costs.
