About the funder

The Ministry for Energy Transition, Climate Protection, Environment and Nature (MEKUN) of the State of Schleswig-Holstein is responsible for the conception, management, and implementation of the energy transition, climate protection, as well as environmental and nature conservation in the state. Its tasks include the development of laws and funding programs aimed at reducing greenhouse gases, the promotion of renewable energies, the monitoring and regulation of emissions, as well as the planning and approval of infrastructure projects in the environmental sector. The ministry works closely with municipalities, state authorities, research institutions, and civil society actors to implement sustainable environmental and nature conservation measures and to represent the state in federal and European committees.

Mission & Vision

Our mission is to actively shape the transition to a climate-neutral energy supply, protect natural livelihoods, and preserve biodiversity in Schleswig-Holstein. We are committed to promoting innovative technologies and measures in the fields of energy transition and climate protection while simultaneously safeguarding an intact environment for future generations. In doing so, we see ourselves as service providers for politics, business, and society and foster a cooperative partnership at all levels.

Target groups

The funding programs and service offerings of the Ministry are aimed at municipalities, companies, energy suppliers, research institutions, environmental and nature conservation associations, as well as private initiatives in Schleswig-Holstein. Target groups are project sponsors who wish to implement measures for emission reduction, the expansion of renewable energies, or nature and landscape conservation. In addition, information and advisory services are provided for citizens who want to engage in climate protection and environmental issues.
