About the funder

The Central German Childhood Cancer Research – Foundation for Research and Healing was established in 2002 as the Peter Escher Foundation for Children with Cancer and renamed in 2013. It is a legally recognized foundation under civil law based in Leipzig and pursues exclusively charitable purposes. The foundation raises financial resources through donations and endowments and channels them to tax-privileged organizations and public institutions in Central Germany. Its primary goal is to promote pediatric oncology at university children's hospitals and research laboratories in Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, and Thuringia. To this end, it awards seed and interim funding, which often enables projects to generate additional funding. Furthermore, it supports families in need of children with cancer and promotes education and training in the field.

Mission & Vision

Our mission is to improve the chances of curing children with cancer through targeted research funding while simultaneously enhancing the quality of life for affected families. We believe in the power of regional collaboration between university hospitals, research institutions, and local supporters. With every donation, we aim to advance innovation in diagnostics and therapy, opening new perspectives for young patients.

Target groups

The funding programs are primarily aimed at medical professionals and scientists conducting projects in the field of pediatric oncology at university children's hospitals and research laboratories in Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, and Thuringia. Both established research groups and early-career researchers are the focus. Indirectly, children and adolescents with cancer and their families benefit from the improved diagnostic and treatment procedures resulting from the funded projects.
