About the funder

The Montan-Stiftung-Saar was founded in 2001 by AG der Dillinger Hüttenwerke and Saarstahl AG. As the 100% owner of Stahl-Holding-Saar GmbH & Co. KGaA and indirectly of Saarstahl AG as well as AG der Dillinger Hüttenwerke, it promotes the steel industry of Saarland. Through subsidiaries such as Montan-Ventures-Saar GmbH and the Montan-Innovation-Lab Saar, it supports investments in start-ups and early innovation projects. Its main focus areas are strengthening competitiveness, promoting new business models, as well as activities in science, qualification, and environmental protection.

Mission & Vision

The Montan-Stiftung-Saar is committed to the permanent preservation and strengthening of the Saarland steel industry. It supports innovative projects in research and teaching, qualification measures, environmental and climate protection, as well as the development of new business models to ensure the future viability of the steel sector and to safeguard jobs.

Target groups

The funding programs of the Montan-Stiftung-Saar are aimed at Saarland steel companies (in particular Saarstahl AG and AG der Dillinger Hüttenwerke), selected research institutions and early-career researchers, providers of qualification and environmental projects in the context of the steel industry, as well as founders and originators of new business ideas and models related to the Saarland steel industry (e.g., digitalization, AI, Industry 4.0, renewable energies, hydrogen economy).
