About the funder

Founded on January 28, 2004, by the employers' association NORDMETALL e. V., the NORDMETALL Foundation is an operationally supportive non-profit foundation under civil law, based in the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg. In close coordination with its founder, it supports projects in the fields of education and science (especially STEM), society (engagement and cohesion), culture (museums and music festivals), as well as other socially impactful initiatives in Hamburg, Bremen, Schleswig-Holstein, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, and northwestern Lower Saxony. The foundation promotes long-term, exemplary initiatives with leverage and scaling potential, strategically accompanies its partners, and is committed to sustainable social, economic, and ecological impact in northern Germany.

Mission & Vision

Promoting talents, strengthening cohesion, enriching the North. The NORDMETALL Foundation is committed to strengthening Northern Germany as an economic and living space. It supports future-oriented educational and career orientation programs in the STEM fields, reinforces civil society engagement for lived democracy, and provides museums and music festivals with resources and formats to serve as significant social spaces. Through long-term partnerships, impact measurement, and strategic support, it aims to initiate sustainable, systemic changes and actively enrich the North.

Target groups

The foundation targets non-profit actors and institutions in Northern Germany – including schools, universities, extracurricular learning centers and research institutes in the STEM field, civil society organizations and educational providers, as well as museums and music festivals. Funding is particularly aimed at multipliers with exemplary character who pursue new approaches or further develop existing ones, as well as projects that demonstrate potential for scaling, dissemination, or systemic impact.
