About the funder

The Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG) is the national funding institution for industry-related research and development in Austria. It is 100% owned by the Republic of Austria and is supported by the Federal Ministries for Innovation, Mobility and Technology (BMIMI) as well as for Economy, Energy and Tourism (BMWET). With an annual funding volume of approximately 1 billion euros, the FFG supports over 60,000 companies, universities, and research institutions in more than 65,000 projects. Its goal is to generate new knowledge, develop innovative products and services, and strengthen the international competitiveness of Austrian organizations. In addition to financial support, the FFG offers comprehensive consulting, evaluation, and networking services and acts as the National Contact Point for EU research programs.

Mission & Vision

With a differentiated portfolio of tailored instruments and services, FFG sets the course for sustainable innovation and cutting-edge research. Our offerings range from low-threshold programs that facilitate entry into research and innovation activities, through specialized funding for SMEs, to the financing of centers of excellence. Furthermore, we promote cooperation between industry and science, emphasize gender mainstreaming and international networking, and ensure the efficient use of public funds through strict quality standards.

Target groups

The FFG funding programs are aimed at companies of all sizes, especially small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), start-ups with research and innovation projects, universities, universities of applied sciences, and non-university research institutions, doctoral candidates and early-career researchers pursuing industry-related PhDs, as well as international consortia and partners from Horizon Europe, EUREKA, Eurostars, and others.
