About the funder

Prof. Dr. Gustav H. Blanke († 2001) established the Prof. Dr. Gustav Blanke and Hilde Blanke Foundation in 1999 at the Department of Translation, Linguistics, and Cultural Studies (American Studies) of Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. The foundation's aim is to support theses and research projects on the origin, development, and global significance of the United States of America, as well as studies examining U.S. initiatives to improve international relations. The scholarship is awarded once a year, with the selection made by a volunteer board of trustees.

Mission & Vision

Our foundation is committed to supporting outstanding research and theses in the field of American Studies, thereby continuing G. H. Blanke's scientific life's work. We fund projects that enable a better understanding of the USA in its historical, political, and cultural dimensions and strengthen the dialogue between nations.

Target groups

Funding is provided to Master's students, doctoral candidates, and postdoctoral researchers in American Studies at Department 06 of Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. The programs are aimed at researchers focusing on the development of the USA, its global role, and its diplomatic relations.
