About the funder

The Saxonia-Freiberg Foundation is a legally capable foundation under civil law, established in 1993 and based in Freiberg. According to its statutes, it is dedicated to the research, preservation, and maintenance of mining and metallurgical customs as well as the mining and metallurgical religious traditions in Central Saxony. It supports non-profit associations and institutions through financial and material grants, provides spaces for public activities, operates and presents the Freiberg Deposit Archive and the foundation's own mineral collection, and organizes educational programs for the preservation of traditions. Additionally, it awards an annual sponsorship prize endowed with €1,000 and maintains an archive and association cabinet project to preserve mining traditions.

Mission & Vision

The Saxonia-Freiberg Foundation is committed to preserving and conveying the historical mining and metallurgical cultural and devotional traditions in the Central Saxony region. Its goal is to keep the mining heritage alive through research, collection, publications, exhibitions, and funding programs, to support charitable initiatives, and to make a sustainable contribution to cultural identity and the common good.

Target groups

Individuals, associations, and institutions with publicly visible projects dedicated to the research, documentation, or preservation of mining and metallurgical customs, monument conservation, as well as mining-related music and devotional traditions are supported. The target group also includes project sponsors conducting scientific or journalistic work on historical topics related to mining and metallurgy or implementing museum and tourism development projects.
