About the funder
The Sebastian Cobler Foundation is a non-independent charitable foundation administered by the Citoyen Foundation, based in Frankfurt am Main. It was established in the name of defense attorney and publicist Dr. Sebastian Cobler and is committed, in the republican spirit, to the protection and defense of civil rights. The foundation’s work is based on the fundamental rights enshrined in the Basic Law as well as the European Convention on Human Rights. The foundation is dedicated to ensuring the limitation of state power against unlawful intrusions into the personal rights of citizens and particularly supports initiatives aimed at preserving and strengthening democratic participation and the right to informational self-determination.

Mission & Vision
The Sebastian Cobler Foundation aims to uphold the civil rights guaranteed by the Basic Law and the European Convention on Human Rights and to protect them from restrictions imposed by state actions. It sees itself as a guardian of the rule of law and intervenes when state authorities attempt to curtail the democratic legal framework. Particular emphasis is placed on defending data protection and the right to informational self-determination.
Target groups
Non-profit individuals, initiatives, and organizations engaged in projects aimed at the preservation and strengthening of civil rights, democratic participation, and informational self-determination are eligible for funding. Funding applications can be submitted informally twice a year (by April 30 and September 30). Proof of non-profit status and a project description including a cost and financial plan are required. Ongoing personnel and material costs as well as book projects cannot be funded.
