About the funder
The Senator for Culture is the cultural policy authority of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen. In this dual role as a state ministry and municipal administration, it is responsible for the entire cultural landscape of Bremen: from institutional funding of theaters, museums, and libraries to project funding for the independent scene, as well as scholarship programs and international cultural cooperations. The authority, based at Altenwall, supports a diverse range of artistic and cultural initiatives annually. It provides funds to maintain and further develop the quality, innovative strength, and networking of Bremen’s cultural life.

Mission & Vision
According to Article 11 of the Bremen State Constitution, the Senator for Culture protects and promotes cultural life in Bremen. Its goal is to ensure an attractive and sustainable cultural offering, to strengthen artistic diversity, and to open up professional opportunities for independent artists. It promotes accessibility, climate compatibility, and diversity as foundations for cultural participation.
Target groups
The funding programs are aimed at professional and independent cultural practitioners, associations, and institutions with a residential or operational focus in Bremen as well as in the Bremen/Oldenburg metropolitan region. Targeted are individual artists, collectives, non-profit organizations, and networks that implement cross-disciplinary or innovative cultural projects. A special focus is placed on the young scene, subculture, as well as intercultural and inclusive cultural work.
