About the funder

The Senate Department for Urban Development, Building and Housing is a supreme state authority of the State of Berlin, headquartered in Berlin-Wilmersdorf. It emerged in its current form in 2021 from the Senate Department for Urban Development and Housing. It is responsible for urban development and urban planning, housing policy and housing promotion, building supervision and building regulations, geoinformation, surveying, as well as urban development funding and urban renewal. Well-known programs include: Berlin Housing Construction Promotion, Urban Development Funding (Vibrant Centers, Social Cohesion, Sustainable Renewal), School Construction Initiative, New Urban Districts.

Mission & Vision

Berlin is changing dynamically – towards a city that is solidaristic, sustainable, and open to the world. The Senate Department for Urban Development, Building and Housing manages growth and transformation with many years of experience in strategic urban development, diverse urban planning projects, and innovative housing policy instruments.

Target groups

Target groups are districts, cities and municipalities, housing associations, non-profit organizations, as well as private investors and project developers with a connection to Berlin. Eligible applicants are particularly those who create affordable housing, renew neighborhoods, or implement climate protection measures in urban development. Geographic focus: exclusively the state of Berlin.
