About the funder

The Sibylle Kalkhof-Rose Foundation is a non-independent trust foundation based in Mainz. It was established in 2006 by Sibylle Kalkhof-Rose and Dr. Eckhart Koch and is the financially strongest trust foundation under the umbrella of the Johannes Gutenberg University Foundation (JGU). It supports outstanding early-career researchers from all disciplines at JGU as well as exceptional, sustainable projects and acquisitions that cannot be financed from regular university funds. Notable programs: Sibylle Kalkhof-Rose University Award (annual, €25,000 each in two categories), RMU Prize, Kalkhof-Rose Creation Space.

Mission & Vision

Promoting creative, independent research: The foundation supports young scientists who conduct research driven by curiosity and not primarily by economic motives. The joy of acquiring knowledge is the prerequisite for successful scientific work.

Target groups

Early-career researchers of all disciplines at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. The university award is aimed at doctoral candidates and postdoctoral researchers up to 40 years of age who do not yet hold a W2 or W3 professorship. Project funding is open to the entire university. Geographic focus: Mainz and Rhine-Main universities.
