About the funder

The Software AG – Foundation (SAGST) is an independent, non-profit grant-making foundation under civil law based in Darmstadt. It was founded in 1992 by Dr. h. c. Peter Schnell, who contributed the shares of the company of the same name to the foundation. With an endowment of approximately 1.3 billion euros and annual expenditures of about 50 million euros, it is one of the largest foundations in Germany. SAGST funds projects in Germany and Europe in the fields of elderly and disability care, education, integrative/anthroposophic medicine, childhood and youth, as well as agriculture and nature conservation. It supports around 250 initiatives annually and provides not only financial grants but also intensive consultation and personal guidance.

Mission & Vision

The Software AG Foundation is committed to providing beneficial impulses for the (further) development of individuals and society. It values the quality of interaction, a holistic understanding of the common good, and sustainability. SAGST supports innovative and diverse projects that are desired within their social context and accompanies applicants on an equal footing—with flexibility, personalized advice, and the aim of enabling development.

Target groups

The funding programs of SAGST are aimed at non-profit initiatives, associations, organizations, and individuals in Germany and Europe who are active in the fields of elderly and disability care, education and upbringing, integrative/anthroposophical medicine, childhood and youth, as well as agriculture and environmental aid. Projects that pursue sustainable, participatory, and impact-oriented approaches and contribute to the common good are supported.
