About the funder

The Sophie Döhner-Hube Foundation is a non-profit, charitable foundation based in Hamburg-Hamm. Since its establishment in 1888, it has been dedicated to elderly care by providing affordable housing for people over 65 years of age who require support due to particular access difficulties in the Hamburg housing market. The foundation maintains around 100 residential units in the center of Hamburg and rents them out permanently at gross cold rents below those set by the social welfare authority. Its historic ensemble of buildings, constructed in traditional red brick, was rebuilt after destruction in World War II and has been expanded and modernized several times.

Mission & Vision

The Sophie Döhner-Hube Foundation promotes the participation of elderly people in community life by ensuring affordable and dignified housing for senior women and men, relying exclusively on volunteer board members and charitable funds. Its goal is to create a home where peace, comfort, and harmony endure permanently.

Target groups

Funding is provided for people over 65 years of age with Protestant affiliation and a housing entitlement certificate (WBS), who, due to particular access difficulties, are unable to use the regular Hamburg housing market under reasonable conditions. The foundation is especially aimed at seniors for whom independent living should be enabled despite limited financial means.
