About the funder

The Sparkassenstiftung Jena-Saale-Holzland was founded in 2005 with the aim of providing lasting support to Jena and the Saale-Holzland district in the fields of culture, social affairs, and science, thereby expressing its connection to the region. The foundation was endowed in its founding year with €250,000 from the assets of Sparkasse Jena-Saale-Holzland and, through additional contributions, was able to build an endowment exceeding €7.4 million by 2023. In accordance with its statutes, it exclusively supports regional projects in the areas of science and research, education and upbringing, youth welfare, elderly care, public health, social welfare, sports, arts and culture, religion, international understanding, environmental, landscape and monument protection, regional heritage, as well as customs and traditions.

Mission & Vision

The Sparkassenstiftung Jena-Saale-Holzland is committed to sustainably strengthening the common good in its region and to specifically supporting regional initiatives across diverse social fields of action. It follows the guiding principle of exclusively regional funding to preserve the quality of life in the city and district, to support innovation, and to reinforce cultural and social cohesion.

Target groups

Eligible to apply are non-profit and charitable associations and institutions as well as churches and religious communities with their headquarters or business address in Jena or the Saale-Holzland district. Natural persons can only be supported in exceptional cases (e.g., scholarships in the field of charitable work). Only projects that take place within the political boundaries of the city and district and provide a recognizable benefit to the region are funded.
