step stiftung

step stiftung is a non-profit private foundation based in Freiburg im Breisgau. Since its founding in 2004, it has developed and operated inclusive sports and movement programs for children and adolescents from socially disadvantaged and migration-affected environments. With specially trained sports coaches, the foundation combines sports and education, promotes social learning, integration, participation, and social mobility, and imparts values such as fair play, tolerance, respect, and solidarity. The programs are low-threshold, free of charge, and implemented in close cooperation with schools, neighborhood facilities, and other network partners.

We harness the diverse and inclusive potential of sports to support children and young people in leading self-determined lives. In doing so, we promote education, social learning, integration, participation, and social mobility. This creates spaces where all children and young people, regardless of their backgrounds, can find their place.

The funding and project offerings of the step stiftung are aimed at children and young people, especially those from socially disadvantaged backgrounds and migration or refugee histories, in Freiburg and the surrounding regions. The goal is to provide these young individuals with low-threshold access through sports, to strengthen their social and personal skills, and to promote social participation and equal opportunities.
