About the funder

The Stiftung Abtei Heisterbach was established in 1984 as a general, independent charitable foundation in accordance with the Stiftungsgesetz NRW. Its purpose is the preservation and scholarly study of the former Cistercian Abbey of Heisterbach as a cultural-historical monument. To this end, it supports measures for the conservation of architecturally significant buildings, research and publications on the history of the abbey, as well as public relations, guided tours, and publications.

Mission & Vision

The foundation aims to preserve the former Heisterbach Abbey in the public consciousness and to scientifically document its history. It supports monument conservation, awards research scholarships, and promotes guided tours, exhibitions, and publications to preserve and make accessible the cultural heritage of the Cistercian abbey.

Target groups

The funding is aimed at scholars and research institutions engaged in monastery and regional history; at monument conservators and heritage protection institutions; at culturally interested visitor groups participating in guided tours, exhibitions, and publications; as well as at the general public to raise awareness of the cultural heritage of the Abbey of Heisterbach.
