About the funder

The Foundation of the German Castles Association is an independent non-profit foundation established in 1999 to support the care, protection, and preservation of historic defensive and residential buildings such as castles, palaces, and manor houses both ideologically and financially. It works closely with the association's internal advisory board for monument preservation and the Scientific Advisory Board of the German Castles Association. The foundation provides seed funding for private owners as well as support measures through the Grand Monument Award and helps to secure the substance of lesser-known architectural monument ensembles.

Mission & Vision

Our goal is to halt the progressive loss of historic buildings in Germany through targeted financial support and expert advice. We support owners who face the challenges of restoration and annually award the Grand Monument Prize to honor outstanding preservation projects. In doing so, we place special emphasis on the preservation of smaller, regionally typical sites that shape our cultural landscapes.

Target groups

The foundation's funding programs are primarily aimed at private owners of listed castles, palaces, manor houses, and other historic buildings in Germany. In addition, builders, monument conservators, and institutions committed to the restoration, preservation, and sustainable use of these cultural assets are supported.
