About the funder

The DGHM Foundation is a non-profit institution of the German Society for Hygiene and Microbiology (DGHM) dedicated to promoting young scientists and honoring outstanding achievements in hygiene and microbiology. Within the framework of its annual conference, it awards main and sponsorship prizes, the bioMérieux Diagnostics Prize, the BD Research Prize, doctoral awards, the DGHM Lecture, and the Ferdinand Cohn Medal. Its goal is to recognize and motivate excellent research approaches in the fields of medical and natural science microbiology as well as hygiene.

Mission & Vision

The DGHM Foundation is committed to promoting science and education in hygiene and microbiology. Through annually awarded prizes and honors, it recognizes outstanding research achievements and particularly supports young scientists in the early stages of their careers to further advance innovative approaches in diagnostics, infection prevention, and molecular microbiology.

Target groups

Researchers in the fields of hygiene and microbiology, including medical and scientific dissertations, are supported and awarded. The target group includes established scientists with many years of research experience as well as early-career researchers who contribute with innovative projects to the advancement of diagnostic methods, antibiotic resistance research, and infection prevention.
