Mission & Vision

Understanding history, present, and future from the perspective of the sea – this is the guiding principle of the DSM. Ships serve as the key to a connected world: they link society, politics, science, and the environment, making the museum a place for exploring and experiencing the dynamic relationship between humans and the sea.

Target groups

The German Maritime Museum is aimed at all generations and social groups: families, children and school classes, adult learners, researchers, as well as the general public. Researchers have access to the library and archive. The geographical focus is on the North German region with national and international reach through the Leibniz Association.
