About the funder
The die schwelle Foundation was established in Bremen in 1979 and currently has an endowment of approximately €4.65 million. Annually, it generates returns of 2.5–3% from its asset investments (2022: approx. €115,000), supplemented by contributions from the founding families and donors (2022: approx. €200,000). In total, around €340,000 was available in 2022 for "Contributions to Peace." The foundation initiates and supports independent peace projects and awards small-scale individual grants (up to €1,500) to organizations, particularly in northwest Germany. It is also involved in awarding the International Bremen Peace Prize and in long-term collaboration with global project partners.

Mission & Vision
The foundation die schwelle is committed to nonviolence in promoting peace, social justice, the protection of human rights, and the preservation of creation. It believes in the transformative power of civil society initiatives and aims to support organizations worldwide that advocate for nonviolent conflict resolution and sustainable social change.
Target groups
The funding programs are aimed at international and national partner organizations in the fields of peace work, human rights, social justice, and environmental conservation; young people and youth groups with a focus on peace work; organizations in northwest Germany planning individual projects closely related in content to the foundation’s own projects (individual funding up to 1,500 euros); as well as applicants for the International Bremen Peace Prize.
