About the funder
The Foundation for the Sorbian People was established in 1991 and is jointly funded by the Federal Republic of Germany, the Free State of Saxony, and the State of Brandenburg. It fulfills the public mandate to preserve and further develop the Sorbian language, culture, and traditions in their traditional settlement area in Upper and Lower Lusatia. The foundation awards grants to Sorbian institutions and projects, implements its own initiatives (events, competitions, exhibitions), publishes publications, films, and audio recordings, and operates the House of the Sorbs in Bautzen as well as the Sorbian Cultural Information Centers in Bautzen and Cottbus.

Mission & Vision
The Foundation for the Sorbian People is committed to the preservation and vibrant further development of the Sorbian language and culture as an expression of the identity of the Sorbian people. It supports associations, cultural groups, and other project sponsors in the Sorbian settlement area through targeted grants and its own cultural initiatives.
Target groups
Natural and legal persons with their registered office or residence in the Sorbian settlement area of the Free State of Saxony and the state of Brandenburg are eligible for funding, including associations and cultural groups, offices, municipalities, and educational institutions as well as publishers and independent project sponsors. In addition, sponsors from the aforementioned area may apply for grants for projects in the fields of art, culture, language, science, child and youth work, local heritage preservation, and scholarships.
