About the funder

The Foundation for Mental Health is a non-legal entity foundation under the sponsorship of the Donors' Association for the Promotion of Sciences and Humanities in Germany. It was established in October 2004 by the German Society for Psychiatry, Psychotherapy, Psychosomatics and Neurology (DGPPN). The foundation supports initiatives and measures both ideationally and materially that improve the acceptance of people with mental illnesses in society, provide competent information about the causes and treatment options of mental disorders, support self-help activities of affected individuals and their relatives, as well as develop, evaluate, and optimize new forms of treatment and care. Funded projects include, among others, the Week of Mental Health, anti-stigma projects, inclusive theater and music projects, scientific studies, and publications.

Mission & Vision

“Mental health concerns us all.” The Foundation for Mental Health is committed to strengthening societal awareness of mental illnesses through both idealistic and material support, reducing discrimination, and improving access to effective treatment and prevention services.

Target groups

The foundation's funding instruments are aimed at non-profit organizations and institutions in the fields of science, education, as well as public health and healthcare. Projects and studies that focus on research, awareness, destigmatization, and the development of innovative care models in the field of mental health are particularly supported.
