About the funder
The GEO-Center Foundation at the KTB is a legally capable public foundation under civil law based in Windischeschenbach. It was established in 2004 by the districts of Neustadt an der Waldnaab and Tirschenreuth, the city of Windischeschenbach, the Vereinigte Sparkassen Eschenbach i.d.OPf., Neustadt a.d.Waldnaab, Vohenstrauß, as well as KCA DEUTAG Drilling GmbH. As the owner of the property including all buildings and the original KTB drilling rig, the foundation ensures the long-term preservation and further development of the GEO-Center environmental station at the Continental Deep Drilling Site (KTB). The chairman of the foundation’s board of trustees is the First Mayor Karlheinz Budnik (City of Windischeschenbach). The foundation board consists of Chairwoman Christina von Seckendorff (Munich) and her deputy Dr. Stephan Oetzinger (Member of the State Parliament).

Mission & Vision
The foundation's purpose is fulfilled through the support of the state-recognized environmental station GEO-Zentrum at the KTB and its diverse geoscientific educational activities. The foundation promotes environmental education for visitors of all ages to sustainably enhance knowledge transfer and public awareness of geoscientific topics.
Target groups
The foundation is aimed at all visitors of the GEO-Center Environmental Station at the KTB. It particularly supports educational programs for students, teachers, and the interested public of all ages who wish to experience and understand geoscientific contexts and sustainable environmental education.
