About the funder

The Stiftung Klosterschule Roßleben is a civil law foundation based in Roßleben-Wiehe (Thuringia). It was founded in 1554 by Heinrich von Witzleben in a dissolved Cistercian monastery and is considered one of the oldest non-denominational boarding grammar schools in Germany. The foundation operates an independently run grammar school with a boarding facility and exclusively pursues charitable and benevolent purposes. It promotes education and scientific instruction regardless of socioeconomic background. Offerings include language instruction, digital learning, career counseling, a music academy, and international exchange programs.

Mission & Vision

The Stiftung Klosterschule Roßleben operates according to the guiding principle "With History into the Future" and combines traditional critical thinking with innovative pedagogy. Based on Christian and humanistic-ethical values, it fosters a community in which Prudentia, Diligentia, Constantia, and Modestia are lived – serving as a solid foundation for the personal development of young people.

Target groups

Students from grade 5 up to the Abitur, both boarding and day students. The foundation is aimed at children and young people regardless of their socioeconomic background. The geographic focus is on Germany, with an international profile through exchange programs. A basic requirement is the willingness to actively participate in a value-based school community.
