About the funder

The Bauhaus Dessau Foundation is a non-profit public law foundation supported by the State of Saxony-Anhalt, the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media (BKM), and the City of Dessau-Roßlau. It preserves, researches, and communicates the globally significant heritage of the Bauhaus movement in Dessau, the birthplace of Bauhaus architecture by Walter Gropius. As an interdisciplinary artistic and scientific institution, it develops exhibitions, research projects, publications, and educational formats to highlight the potentials of the Bauhaus legacy in the 21st century. Its responsibilities include the preservation and restoration of the UNESCO World Heritage sites Bauhaus Buildings, Masters' Houses, and Laubengang Houses, the operation of the Bauhaus Museum Dessau, as well as international cooperation in research and teaching.

Mission & Vision

The Bauhaus Dessau Foundation is committed to continuously examining the multifaceted heritage of the Bauhaus and updating it for the present and future. Through exhibitions, research, and cultural education, it opens the historic Bauhaus buildings to visitors, combines sustainability with monument preservation, and collaboratively develops exemplary projects with partners both regionally and internationally. Its goal is to carry forward the Bauhaus as a living source of inspiration for design, architecture, and societal debates, enabling diverse narratives, encounters, and discourses.

Target groups

The programs and offerings of the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation are aimed at a broad audience: culture enthusiasts and tourists who wish to experience the original Bauhaus buildings and the Bauhaus Museum Dessau; professionals and research institutions in Bauhaus and modernist studies; students and educators in the fields of design, architecture, and art education; artists and designers working within the Bauhaus Residency; as well as regional and international partners from the cultural sector, heritage conservation, and education.
