About the funder

The Stiftung Morgenland is a legally recognized foundation under civil law based in Berlin. It was established in 2020 as the successor to the "Morgenländische Frauenmission" (MFM), founded in 1842, and maintains close ties with the Berlin Missionary Society (BMW), the Evangelical Church Berlin-Brandenburg-Silesian Upper Lusatia, the Jerusalem Association within the BMW, the United Evangelical Mission, and the Evangelical Youth and Welfare Organization (EJF). The foundation’s purpose is to support and promote primarily church-related projects for girls and women—particularly in the areas of education and training. The focus is on projects in the Middle East as well as in Berlin and Brandenburg. Furthermore, the foundation awards scholarships and promotes theological-spiritual education. There is no legal entitlement to funding; funding decisions are made by the board.

Mission & Vision

The Morgenland Foundation is committed to empowering girls and women worldwide – primarily in the Middle East as well as in Berlin and Brandenburg – through educational and vocational training projects. We support theological-spiritual and professional education and training, foster connections between mission organizations and missionary associations in Germany, and preserve the history of our tradition. Our goal is to create sustainable opportunities and promote the social participation of girls and women.

Target groups

Only non-profit organizations, foundations, associations, and church institutions based and holding bank accounts in Germany are eligible for funding. Applicant projects must comply with the foundation's statutes and primarily serve the education and training of girls and women. Individuals as well as the acquisition of land or buildings are not funded. Project implementation can take place in the Middle East, Berlin, or Brandenburg, possibly in cooperation with local partner organizations.
