About the funder
The Neue Energie Foundation was established in 1997 by GLS Treuhand to support courageous pioneers in the citizen energy transition. It provides the interest income from its assets as well as endowments and donations to support non-profit initiatives that advance a 100% renewable, socially just, and responsible energy supply. The foundation accompanies projects from the initial idea through production and democratic citizen participation to practical implementation, aiming to place energy generation within citizen-owned structures.

Mission & Vision
Our mission is to enable a future in which all necessary climate targets are met, the human-induced climate crisis is halted, biodiversity is strengthened, and irreversible environmental damage is prevented. We leverage our expertise and networks in the field of renewable energies to empower bold pioneers to bring 100% renewable electricity from utopia into practice. A large portion of energy production should be in the hands of citizens who collectively and fairly drive innovation processes forward.
Target groups
Non-profit projects and initiatives are supported that demonstrate responsible handling of people, the environment, and resources, develop forward-looking ideas and concepts, and are carried by committed groups. The focus is on citizen energy projects, civil society initiatives, and people of all genders and ethnic backgrounds who actively wish to participate in the energy transition.
