Stiftung OFFSHORE-Windenergie

Non-profit organization

About the funder

The OFFSHORE WIND ENERGY Foundation was established in 2005 at the initiative of the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) and has established itself as a non-partisan, supraregional, and independent institution supporting offshore wind energy in Germany and Europe. It functions as a think tank and networking platform, advising politics, industry, and science, and initiates and accompanies research and educational projects. Its goal is to consolidate the role of offshore wind energy in the future energy mix, to advance its expansion in the interest of environmental and climate protection, and to strengthen social acceptance.

Mission & Vision

Our mission is to support the offshore wind sector with all its individual segments and interfaces – through expertise, networks, and dedicated interdisciplinarity. We operate across regions, beyond party lines, across sectors, and with a focus on the common good, to establish offshore wind energy as a key component of the energy transition in Germany and Europe.

Target groups

The foundation targets decision-makers and stakeholders from politics (federal and state ministries, authorities), industry associations, project developers, manufacturers of offshore wind turbines, energy supply companies, grid operators, banks, insurance companies, researchers, as well as civil society institutions. It offers these stakeholders a platform for knowledge exchange, political consultation, studies, and funding projects for the sustainable development of offshore wind energy.
