About the funder
On October 24, 2007, the Paul-Spiegel-Berufskolleg was established from the Berufskolleg Dorsten. Driven by the desire to sustainably promote the values represented by Paul Spiegel, the Paul-Spiegel-Berufskolleg Foundation – Foundation for Understanding Democracy and Tolerance was founded. It particularly supports the statutory tasks of the Berufskolleg Dorsten, promotes the quality of teaching, and awards prizes for outstanding achievements as well as for projects that strengthen the understanding of democracy and tolerance in the Emscher-Lippe region. The foundation operates selflessly and uses its funds exclusively for purposes in accordance with its statutes.

Mission & Vision
The foundation is committed to promoting education and upbringing with a special focus on understanding democracy and tolerance. Supported are individuals, groups, and institutions from the Emscher-Lippe region who are exceptionally committed to promoting understanding of democracy and tolerance. Additionally, an art and culture award is aimed at creatives who engage thematically with democratic values and express these artistically. The goal is to reach and inspire as many diverse population groups as possible.
