About the funder

The RUFZEICHEN GESUNDHEIT! Foundation is a public foundation under civil law based in Baierbrunn near Munich. It was established on December 6, 2005, by publisher Rolf Becker (Wort & Bild Verlag) and is supervised by the Government of Upper Bavaria. Its main task is to educate the public about the dangers of Metabolic Syndrome – a risk quartet consisting of obesity, hypertension, diabetes, and lipid disorders. Well-known programs include the Health Award (endowed with 25,000 euros) and the Media Award for journalistic contributions on Metabolic Syndrome.

Mission & Vision

The foundation pursues the goal of raising public awareness of the dangers of metabolic syndrome. Its aim is to create public consciousness of this widespread disease and to promote self-responsible prevention as well as the prevention of serious secondary illnesses such as heart attack and stroke through qualified information.

Target groups

Individuals, groups, and institutions engaged in the prevention and/or treatment of metabolic syndrome—with a scientific approach and practical orientation—are supported. The media award is aimed at journalists and editors of German mass media. Geographical focus: Germany.
