About the funder

The Stiftung Stadtmuseum Berlin is a public law foundation that has served as the state museum for the culture and history of Berlin since 1995. It encompasses six central locations (Märkisches Museum, Museum Ephraim-Palais, Museum Knoblauchhaus, Museum Nikolaikirche, Museumsdorf Düppel, and the BERLIN GLOBAL exhibition in the Humboldt Forum) with the collection-relevant depot in the Poelzig Hall in Spandau. The foundation's mandate is to collect, preserve, research, and make accessible to the public the history and cultural diversity of Berlin through exhibitions, educational programs, and temporary exhibitions.

Mission & Vision

The Stadtmuseum Berlin sees itself as a democratizing, inclusive, and participatory space where a critical dialogue about Berlin's past and future is conducted. It safeguards artifacts in trust for society, preserves diverse memories, and guarantees equal access for all people. Through programs on contemporary issues such as housing, environment, and migration, it promotes social justice and participation, positioning itself as a catalyst for urban debates as well as a mirror of the diverse urban society.

Target groups

The foundation's offerings are aimed at the entire Berlin urban community: residents, visitors, pupils, young people and adults of all ages and population groups, as well as communities and initiatives. Through low-barrier mediation formats, outreach programs, and digital offerings, target groups that have so far been excluded or distant from museums are actively included. Scholars, students, and partners in research and culture benefit from the open collection and research infrastructure.
