About the funder

The Foundation for Environmental, Nature, and Climate Protection of the State of Saxony-Anhalt (SUNK) is a public law foundation based in Magdeburg. It was established on May 7, 1994, and took its current form in 2005 through a merger with the Climate Protection Foundation. It supports environmental and nature conservation projects, manages over 4,000 hectares of National Natural Heritage (Blankenburg Nature Heritage Forest, Green Belt Saxony-Anhalt), coordinates ecological volunteer services (FÖJ, ÖBFD), and awards the Saxony-Anhalt Environmental Prize. Well-known programs include project funding, FÖJ, ÖBFD, and the SUNK Explorer Class.

Mission & Vision

For over three decades, SUNK has been tirelessly committed to preserving the natural foundations of life in Saxony-Anhalt. The foundation supports efforts to protect natural habitats, promotes civic engagement in environmental matters, and implements its own projects for a livable future.

Target groups

Non-profit organizations, associations, schools, municipalities, and individuals in Saxony-Anhalt implementing projects in the fields of environmental, nature, and climate protection are supported. Ecological voluntary services are aimed at young people (FÖJ, ÖBFD). Geographic focus: State of Saxony-Anhalt.
