Stiftung Waldorfpädagogik
About the funder
The Foundation for the Promotion of Waldorf Education in Essen was established in 2003 as a non-profit foundation under civil law, headquartered in Essen. It is a member of the Association of German Foundations and is supervised by the District Government of Düsseldorf (registration number 1019). The foundation's goal is the permanent provision of additional financial resources for the sustainable development of Waldorf education. Ninety percent of the foundation's capital income is allocated to projects at the Free Waldorf School Essen (e.g., establishment of specialized classrooms, learning workshop, circus project, scientific equipment) and ten percent to Waldorf institutions in developing countries (including Peru, Kyrgyzstan, Kenya, Ukraine). The foundation's assets have grown from €50,000 in 2003 to over €1.2 million (as of the end of 2025). To date, disbursements exceeding €400,000 have been made to the Essen school and over €50,000 to international projects. The governing bodies (board and advisory council) work on a voluntary basis; administrative costs amount to approximately 0.3% of the capital.

Mission & Vision
The Waldorf Education Foundation is committed to sustainably supporting the individual encouragement and holistic development of students at the Free Waldorf School Essen. In particular, it aims to implement differentiation opportunities, artistic-craft as well as scientific projects, and therapeutic measures that would otherwise not be fundable from public resources. At the same time, the foundation is dedicated to Waldorf institutions in developing countries to provide children worldwide with access to contemporary, developmentally appropriate education.
Target groups
The funding measures of the Foundation are primarily aimed at the students of the Free Waldorf School Essen across all school branches (regular school, special needs school, Heliand school). In addition, the Foundation supports Waldorf institutions in developing and emerging countries (e.g., schools in Peru, Kenya, Kyrgyzstan, Ukraine) that promote children and youth from financially disadvantaged or disabled groups. The programs focus on individual performance support, integrative therapeutic services, and practice-oriented learning.
