About the funder

The Stiftung Weltweite Wissenschaft was founded in 1963 and operates the guesthouse of the University of Hamburg at Rothenbaumchaussee 34. The foundation's purpose is to support the sciences at the University of Hamburg by promoting regional and international exchange among researchers and educators. With 41 apartments, studios, and family flats, the guesthouse offers a comfortable temporary home for visiting scholars from around the world. On the ground floor is the International Meeting Center (IBZ) with lecture and club rooms, providing space for scientific, cultural, and social events.

Mission & Vision

The Stiftung Weltweite Wissenschaft promotes international exchange and the meeting of researchers at the University of Hamburg. It provides guest apartments and conference rooms to enable uninterrupted scientific work and to support both informal and formal meetings. Through its activities, it contributes to networking and intercultural dialogue within the academic community.

Target groups

The foundation's funding programs are aimed at foreign scientists, visiting professors, and educators who are staying in Hamburg for research or teaching purposes. In addition, the International Meeting Center is intended for university and external organizers who wish to hold conferences, workshops, lectures, and cultural events at the IMC. The target group includes individuals and groups from both domestic and international backgrounds seeking a place for scientific exchange, encounters, and temporary accommodation.
