About the funder

The Stiftung Wissenschaft und Demokratie (SW&D) is an independent and non-profit foundation based in Kiel, founded in 1992 by Prof. Dr. Eberhard Schütt-Wetschky. It supports scientific projects that are suitable for promoting liberal democracy in accordance with the Basic Law. Its core areas include its own Institute for Parliamentary Research (IParl), a funding partnership with the Institute for Security Policy at the University of Kiel (ISPK), science communication through the Political Science Portal (pw-portal) and the journal SIRIUS, as well as events and collaborations at local, national, and international levels.

Mission & Vision

The foundation is committed to promoting liberal democracies by initiating, supporting, and translating political science research into practice. Its goal is to strengthen parliamentary structures and strategic analyses, secure internal and external peace, and foster democratic discourse.

Target groups

The funding programs of SW&D are aimed at political science research institutions, scholars, and students, as well as projects and initiatives from the policy sciences and related disciplines. Furthermore, the foundation supports actors in political education and the interested public, and collaborates with national and international partners in funding projects and events.
