Public foundation

About the funder

The Stiftung Zukunft Wald was founded in July 2008 by the Lower Saxony State Forests as the first public-law forestry organization in Germany and has since pursued the goal of initiating and promoting environmental education and species protection projects in the Lower Saxony State Forest. Its work includes the initiation, planning, and implementation of forest education measures and nature conservation projects, particularly the flagship project "School Forests Against Climate Change," which plants the most school forests nationwide. The foundation regards healthy forests as a vital resource for climate, biodiversity, and society and is committed to sustainable management of forests and nature through long-term projects.

Through forest-related environmental education programs, nature and species protection measures, as well as the involvement of schools, municipalities, and other societal actors, the foundation fosters awareness of ecological interrelationships and especially motivates young people to actively take responsibility for their environment.

The foundation's funding programs are primarily aimed at schools and educational institutions as well as their teachers and students in Lower Saxony who wish to participate in practical environmental education projects in the forest. In addition, the target group includes municipalities, public institutions, and civil society partners who collaborate with the foundation to implement or support forest, education, and nature conservation projects.
