About the funder

The Strunden-Parrot Foundation (SPS) was established in 1998 by Dr. Hans Strunden within the Zoological Society for Species and Population Conservation (ZGAP) as a fiduciary, non-profit foundation. He contributed initial capital of 200,000 DM, which has since generated income, and since 2010 additionally comprises €250,000. The interest income as well as one fifth of the original capital annually are used exclusively for conservation measures of wild, endangered parrot species. As all members of the board of trustees work on a voluntary basis, no personnel costs are incurred. Decisions regarding the allocation of funds are made by a five-member board of trustees composed of ZGAP members.

Mission & Vision

The SPS aims to ensure the survival of critically endangered parrot species through reliable, long-term funding of effective conservation measures in their natural habitats. It relies on the sustainable model of an endowment foundation, voluntary commitment, and close cooperation with specialized species conservation groups to channel funds directly and efficiently into parrot conservation without administrative costs.

Target groups

Funding is provided for species conservation projects, initiatives, and working groups specifically dedicated to the protection of wild parrot species. The focus is on both field research and practical conservation measures, as well as collaboration with local partners and the working group Fund for Endangered Parrots (FbP) of the ZGAP, in order to sustainably stabilize the populations of endangered species through coordinated actions.
