About the funder
The Tierschutzstiftung Saar is a legal foundation under civil law based in Saarbrücken, established in 2001 on the initiative of the Ministry of the Environment. It brings together government agencies, animal and nature conservation associations, as well as animal-using organizations in its board of trustees. Its purpose is to promote animal welfare in Saarland through education, the promotion of species-appropriate husbandry, and support for projects and institutions such as animal shelters, rescue stations, and sanctuaries. The foundation has a diversely composed board and board of trustees and works across departments to implement sustainable and effective animal welfare measures.

Mission & Vision
The Tierschutzstiftung Saar aims to raise awareness of animals within society. It provides an information platform and promotes a better understanding of domestic, farm, and wild animals. By bringing together various interest groups and awarding funding, projects can be implemented more purposefully and efficiently to sustainably establish animal welfare in Saarland.
Target groups
The funding programs and information services of the Tierschutzstiftung Saar are aimed at all animal welfare stakeholders in Saarland: public institutions (e.g., animal shelters, rescue centers), associations and initiatives (e.g., youth groups, nature conservation organizations), volunteers, as well as individuals and companies committed to the well-being of domestic, farm, and wild animals. Special attention is given to educational projects for children and youth and innovative measures to improve animal husbandry.
