The Volkstheater Frankfurt – Liesel Christ, Liesel and Gisela Christ Foundation is a civil law foundation based in Frankfurt am Main. It was established on April 29, 2015, by Gisela Christ von Carben, daughter of the Volkstheater founder Liesel Christ (1919–1996), and was recognized as a legal foundation on May 12, 2015. The foundation supports spoken theater with a special focus on linguistic diversity and multilingualism on stage. Notable programs: Liesel and Gisela Christ Scholarship, annual foundation evenings.

Mission & Vision

In the tradition of the Volkstheater Frankfurt, the foundation is dedicated to promoting spoken theatre, particularly linguistic diversity on stage – dialects, regional colloquial languages such as the Frankfurt dialect, as well as multilingualism through various nationalities and ethnicities. The goal is a modern Volkstheater that has something to say to everyone.

Target groups

Acting students at the University of Music and Performing Arts Frankfurt (HfMDK) who, in addition to Standard German, speak a dialect or a second native language and use their multilingualism on stage. Geographical focus: Frankfurt am Main and the Rhine-Main region.
