About the funder

The Wolfgang Siegel Foundation is a public foundation under civil law based in Hof. It was established by the Hof entrepreneur and patron Wolfgang Siegel through a foundation deed dated May 28, 1986, and received official approval from the Bavarian State Ministry for Education and Culture on June 9, 1986. Under the supervision of the Government of Upper Franconia in Bayreuth, the foundation promotes scientific purposes as well as public and vocational education in the northeastern Upper Franconia region. Key objectives include supporting regional historical research, providing grants for the acquisition of exhibits for the “Bayerisches Vogtland” Museum in Hof, and supplying teaching materials for local history instruction in schools. Following the founder’s death in November 2008, the foundation’s board consists of three members: the Mayor of the City of Hof (Chair), the City Heritage Conservator, and the Head of the Cultural Office, each with deputies. Since 2006, the commercial administration has been handled by the Foundations Department of the City Administration of Hof. Since its inception, the foundation has realized numerous projects, including the acquisition of art-historical objects, specialist publications, teaching equipment, devices for the public observatory, and the establishment of a library at the Johann-Christian-Reinhart Gymnasium.
